Double treat served up for food lovers

FOODIES are in for a double treat in Beverley this weekend.

Producers from across East Yorkshire will be tickling the tastebuds of thousands of visitors at the fifth Beverley Food Festival from 9am to 4.30pm on Sunday. East Riding Council is hosting its Apple Fest on the same day.

About 80 stalls will be in Saturday Market, selling everything from jam to cheese and sausages to truffles.

Local chefs including Tina Cerutti and John Robinson will be demonstrating their skills and there will be a charity barbecue.

Town clerk Helen Watson said: “We have a fantastic array of local produce in the East Riding of Yorkshire – we have liqueur makers, breads, cakes and truffle-makers.

“There’s a real festival feel to the day.”

Meanwhile, the Apple Fest is being held at the Millennium Orchard, Beverley Parks, from 11am to 3pm. Falconry displays, chainsaw carving, environmental art, face painting, charcoal burning and marquees packed with countryside activities and information are all on offer.

The Beverley Beekeepers will be holding their annual Honey Show and the Women’s Institute will be serving up an array of apple-related sweets and savouries.
