Dracula revisited

THE imposing cliff-top ruins of Whitby Abbey inspired Bram Stoker to write the novel about the most famous vampire.

And now visitors to the English Heritage site on the North Yorkshire coast will be able to get a new take on the classic Victorian gothic tale of Dracula with weekend promenade performances, including Richard Hollick , pictured, as the Count. Making a much-anticipated return after last year’s debut, three performers will stage the open-air productions, each weekend until the end of August. Writer and director Simon King said: “Some of Bram Stoker’s story is indeed set in a ruined abbey, believed to have been inspired by Whitby Abbey and while we retain the essence of the horror story, we are opening this great legend up to a new family audience.”
