Driver arrested after boy, 16, dies on New Year's Eve

A driver was arrested after the 16-year-old was struck at 9.05pm outside the White Swan pub in Boroughgate, Otley, Leeds.

The teenager was taken to hospital, but died despite the best efforts of staff.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "A young man, 16 years of age, had been knocked over by a car.

"He was a pedestrian.

"The young man was conveyed to hospital but unfortunately died later that night.

"The driver, also male, was arrested in connection with the incident.

"Inquiries are continuing."
