'Drug tragedy' of Carey's grandson

A GRANDSON of former Archbishop of Canterbury Lord Carey has died of a suspected drugs overdose, it was revealed.

Simon Day, 24, was found dead at his home in Canterbury, Kent, on January 2.

Mr Day, who played guitar and sang vocals in a band named The Liasons, was studying at music college in the city.

He had battled heroin addiction and had recently left rehab, a national newspaper reported.

Lord (George) Carey, of Newbury, Berks, said he and his wife Eileen were "very, very upset" by the death, adding: "He was a dearly loved grandson."

A spokeswoman for Kent Police confirmed officers attended an address in Canterbury on January 2 and found the body of a 24-year-old man. The death was not treated as suspicious.
