Drugs Pc hits the road

POLICE have deployed one of only seven drug recognition experts (DRE) in the country on North Yorkshire’s roads ahead of a major campaign tackling people driving under the influence in England’s largest rural county.

Tadcaster-based Pc Yvonne Taylor has completed an intensive three-week scholarship course in California on the impact of drugs on drivers. Her skills are now recognised at expert level by the courts.

Officers described having DRE as a “huge bonus” before the annual drink and drug driving campaign begins on Wednesday next week.

Sergeant Ian Pope said: “This is a massive positive for North Yorkshire Police in the fight against drug driving.”
