From duck herding to bike riding – it’s Howden Show

Mountain bike stunts, sheepdogs herding ducks and dancing horses are among the new attractions planned for this year’s Howden Show.

MAD (Mountain bike Aerial Display), Europe’s most experienced mountain bike stunt display team, will leap, jump, hop – and balance – using their custom-made Land Rover demo bicycles and equipment as part of the show on Sunday July 3 at The Ashes playing field in Howden.

Shepherdess and sheepdog trainer Elaine Hill will demonstrate the duck-herding skill of her Border Collies, while another highlight promises to be a display by Jive Pony, featuring dancing horses and equestrian skills.

Other attractions include a series of circus skills workshops, where visitors can try out everything from juggling and stilt walking to balloon modelling. There will also be go-karts, a climbing wall and giant versions of popular board games.

Old favourites like the dog, horse, sheep and cattle showing classes, handicraft and horticulture classes, and a varied selection of trade stands, will also be part of the programme. There will be a display of vintage and modern tractors, Shire Horses, interactive craft demonstrations by local Women’s Institute members and the chance for dog owners and their pooches to take part in a series of fun training sessions run by The Tailwagger Club.

A number of Yorkshire food and drink producers will be providing food samples and selling their wares as part of the Food Festival. Advance tickets go on sale early next month .
