Dynamic leaders sought for city’s investment

A CITY has issued a plea for “innovative and influential” people to lead work on a once-in-a-generation bid to attract jobs and investment.

The city plan in Hull aims to create 7-8,000 jobs for local job-seekers over the next 10 years, which would inject as much as £250m into the local economy.

Council chiefs say the plan cannot be delivered by any one organisation in isolation and requires “drive and commitment from across the city to bring it to life”.

Now officials are looking for key figures who can drive the work forwards as part of a new city leadership board.

Individuals need to have experience in specific areas of the plan and be “passionate about city, highly influential, forward-thinking” and able to engage a wide range of people.

Council leader Councillor Stephen Brady said: “The city plan will identify the building blocks needed for success and will set out where, when and what needs to happen to ensure Hull achieves its potential.

“We’ll do our bit, but need the right people on the board to make sure this happens for the city.”

The plan has a number of key drivers including establishing Hull as a leading city for energy production and energy conservation, with headline projects to include plans for waste harvesting and the production of tidal, biomass and wind energy. Projects will also be lined up to triple the number of visitors to the city through a cruise terminal, conference centre and new international art gallery and outdoor museum.

Council chief executive Darryl Stephenson said: “The city plan, with the right people driving it, will ensure our efforts move in one direction, towards one goal.

“We are creating the platform but it cannot be the same people around a table – we need the best people placed to drive this forward as part of the board.”
