East Coast in focus for exhibition

HISTORIC and contemporary films of the East Coast will be shown at an event in Beverley next week.

The East Riding Archives and Local Studies Service will be screening a series of films and photographs at the Treasure House on Tuesday, from 6.30pm.

Entitled Bridlington and the East Yorkshire Coast, subjects being shown range from a school outing to North Landing, Flamborough Head, made by the children of Beverley’s Spencer Street School in 1957, to crab fishing and panoramic views of the coast from Spurn Point northwards.

It also features an important day for Withernsea on September 26, 1967, when the resort had its gas supply installed.

Collections officer Sam Bartle said: “Our gas supply is something that we take very much for granted nowadays, but back then this was a fantastic innovation and a film was made to mark the momentous occasion.

“I suppose this would be like someone making a film about us switching to solar or wind power nowadays. The show takes in a variety of themes and I’m sure people will learn something by coming.” To reserve a seat call 01482 392790.
