Elegant Minster backdrop for BBC double bill

Broadcaster Fiona Bruce was all smiles when she arrived in Beverley for a recording of Antiques Roadshow, with the elegant grandeur of Beverley Minster as a backdrop.

Yesterday's filming of the popular programme was the second time this week the Minster has featured in a BBC production, after it hosted Songs of Praise and presenter Aled Jones on Monday and Tuesday. Both programmes are expected to be screened on the same Sunday evening in the autumn.

Simon Shaw, series editor of Antiques Roadshow, said: "We are very excited that two big BBC brands are co-operating in such an innovative way and at such a stunning location."

A steady stream of visitors arrived throughout the day with heirlooms and artefacts to be viewed by the programme's experts, including David Battie, Eric Knowles and Hilary Kay.

Antiques Roadshow has been filmed in East Yorkshire twice before over the last 15 years – at Hull in 1997 and at Hornsea in 2004. In Hull, a rare piece of 19th century silver was valued at nearly 20,000, while one of the more unusual items brought in to the Hornsea roadshow was an early 20th century chastity belt, worth 600.
