The 21-month-old limousin, bought at as a calf at foot by the family and named Bankdale, was given the nod by judges in a very strong cattle class at the show. The reserve was taken by an Aberdeen Angus, owned by VF Dobson from Holme-on-Spalding Moor in East Yorkshire.
William Barker, from Scorton near Richmond, showing the animal, said he was delighted to win the title.

Hide AdThe cattle judging was just one of many highlights at the show, one of the most popular one day events in the English farming calendar.
While overcast, the weather was warm throughout the day, with many visitors opting for short-sleeves and ice-creams.
Indeed despite one of the wettest summers on record, conditions remained fine underfoot, a testimony to the investment made by organisers to improve drainage on the site.
Ryedale is perhaps best known for its horse classes, which drew large crowds throughout the day. However the largest cheer of the day came when the announcer relayed the news from London that Team GB had taken a silver medal in the eventing.

Hide AdAttendance levels looked to be strong, with the event routinely attracting audiences well into five figures.
The event also marked the first at which Tom Watson took over the reigns of Show Secretary, a position long held by Peter Woodhall – well-known to many in the Ryedale area.
Among those enjoying the day were James Burton and his two sons Cliff and David.
The family from York are regular visitors to the show, having been the past three years in a row.
“The boys are both very interested in anything ‘outdoorsy’ so they love it here. It is a great family day out and lets us see great quality animals up close.”
