Entertainments venue deal today

Officials will finalise their deal today with the operators of a new entertainments venue replacing the historic Baths Hall in Scunthorpe.

Leader of North Lincolnshire Council Coun Mark Kirk; John Sutherland, vice president SMG Europe; and Nick Reed, theatres director SMG Europe, will tour the construction site in Doncaster Road, before signing the management contract.

SMG, whose portfolio includes Manchester's Bridgewater Hall, will be operating the Baths Hall as well as the Plowright Theatre. It is expected that around 70 new jobs will be created at the new venue.

Coun Kirk said: "SMG have ambitious plans for the Baths Hall and the Plowright Theatre and I for one can't wait to see the doors open and the first acts take the stage."

Mr Reed said: "SMG is delighted to have been awarded the contract to operate the Baths Hall and Plowright Theatre.

"The scale and flexibility of the Baths Hall will now combine with the established charm of the Plowright Theatre to provide the town with a suite of entertainment facilities un-matched in most cities."
