Estate with more than 350 homes set to be given planning permission

Barratt Homes has submitted the plans for 369 new homes and garages, as well as access roads and lanscaping, on a site in between Laughton Road and Sawn Moor Road in Thurcroft, next to the junctions of the M1 and M18 motorways.

The proposals were previously approved by the local authority in December last year, but now have to be formally approved again due to a change in Government planning policy.

A total of 14 letters of objection have been submitted to Rotherham Council in opposition to the plans, claiming that “current resources in Thurcroft are overstretched” and the collage couldn’t cope with such a large number of new homes.

Other opponents say that the new estate will impact on views from existing homes, the proposed gardens are too small, and the houses will result in a “significant increase in traffic.”

However, town planners say the proposals are an “acceptable form of development” and have advised councillors to give their approval at today’s meeting.
