Ex-Minister’s wife ‘may be hack victim’

The wife of Wales’ former first minister Rhodri Morgan fears she may have been a victim of phone hacking while her husband was in office.

Julie Morgan said she had been contacted by her mobile phone company about calls which were made to her phone during 2005 and 2006.

Mrs Morgan, who is now the Labour Assembly Member for Cardiff North, said she met officers from the Metropolitan Police after being contacted by her phone company last July.

She said up to nine calls said to be from publisher News International were being investigated.

She had no recollection of talking to anybody from News International “but on the other hand this is five years later.”

She added: “I can’t think of anything in the newspapers which would have been put in as a result of hacking so to speak.

“But (these calls) were when Rhodri was first minister and I was an MP – when we both had public, conspicuous jobs.
