But from the 1920s onwards the cine cameras have come out to document the excitement and occasion of a day at York races.

York has famously been connected with racing for hundreds of years and many exciting moments have been recorded on film, by professionals and amateurs alike.

Thanks to funding from Screen Yorkshire, the Yorkshire Film Archive has teamed up with York Races to take racegoers on a 60-year film ride. The Yorkshire Film Archive has trawled its vaults to find the best of this footage to bring to the big screen Racing Reels.
