Exclusive: Chamber of commerce's cash crisis

A CATALOGUE of problems brought a Yorkshire chamber of commerce to the brink of liquidation, it can be revealed today.

A document seen by the Yorkshire Post reveals that the Mid-Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which had to secure a deal with creditors to keep trading, made a tax error, lost the right to bid for some training contracts and ran up a deficit in a scheme to help families with childcare costs.

At its peak, around a decade ago, it was the largest chamber in the country.

Company secretary Steven Bonfield said it had faced

three recessions since its policy of expansion started in the 1970s.
