Exhibition to feature photos of iconic aircraft from aviation's heritage

The exhibition by photographer Ian Clipson is in memory of his grandfather Jack Pettit.

Mr Clipson, who was born in Barton upon Humber in 1966, first started taking aviation photographs aged 12 with a Kodak pocket camera and Mr Pettit used to take him to air shows at RAF Waddington and RAF Finningley.

One of the last remaining Lancaster bomber flight navigators, Flt Lt J Douglas Hudson, is hoping to attend on the closing day of the exhibition at the Waters' Edge Visitor Centre in the town on Sunday January 30.

The 96-year-old veteran will be signing copies of his book, A Navigator's Story.

The exhibition, entitled Lincolnshire Aviation, includes 70 photographs to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

All the images were taken at RAF Waddington, RAF Coningsby and the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre at East Kirkby and many feature iconic aircraft from Battle of Britain Memorial Flight including the iconic Avro Lancaster and Spitfire.

Mr Clipson said: "I am thrilled at the opportunity to exhibit my pictures and hope the public get as much pleasure at viewing them as I have had in taking them."

North Lincolnshire Council leader Mark Kirk said: "Lincolnshire and Northern Lincolnshire is famous all round the world for its aviation heritage and Ian's magnificent photographs celebrate that history."
