Extra-care scheme undergoes revision

PLans for a new £7.6m extra care scheme at Settle have been revised.

North Yorkshire County Council is to hold a public meeting for people living in Settle and the surrounding area to discuss the latest plans for the development at Lower Greenfoot.

The latest proposals include a reduction in the height of the building and some amendments to drainage.

The scheme will include 60 apartments – 36 two-bedroom apartments and 24 specialist dementia apartments – the first of their kind in North Yorkshire.

It will also include a restaurant, hair and beauty salon, shop, community library, guest suite, memory clinic, wellbeing clinic and meeting room which will be available for hire by the community.

There will be an on-site care shop from which residents and people in the local community will be able to buy care and support using their direct payments.

Members of the partnership responsible for the project – North Yorkshire County Council extra care team, Housing 21 which will own and manage the scheme, Shuttleworth Picknett and Associates Architects and Bramall Construction Ltd – will be at the meeting on April 21 at the Royal Oak Hotel, Market Place, Settle, to talk to members of the public from 2pm until 7pm.

Derek Law, the county council’s corporate director for adult and community services, said: “This meeting will provide an excellent opportunity for everyone with an interest to learn more about the scheme and to raise any concerns. This is a tremendous project, absolutely at the cutting edge of where social care should be going.”

The scheme will support people with needs including people with very high care and support requirements such as those living with dementia, physical disability and mobility impairment, sensory impairment and anxiety.

The proposal is due to be considered by Craven Council on May 3.
