Fall in number of hoax calls by children

Burgeoning smartphone ownership among children has been linked to a sharp fall in the number of hoax emergency calls.

London Fire Brigade has revealed that it now receives almost half as many prank calls as it did seven years ago when youngsters were more likely to pop into a phone box.

Children are potentially dissuaded from making hoax calls from their mobiles because their numbers can be traced, Assistant Commissioner Richard Chandler said.

““It’s a little less tempting when you know that the people you’re hoaxing have your number,” he added.
