Families escape
abroad for last
glimpse of sun

The wet summer and the Olympic effect has led to a surge in bookings for half-term breaks.

There has been a 19 per cent increase in families searching for some October sun, according to TravelSupermarket.com.

The Canary Islands are the favourite destination for half-term holiday sunshine breaks, while Red Sea destinations and Dalaman in Turkey are popular.

Out of favour appear to be Rome, Las Vegas and Marrakech, with Cape Verde and Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt proving a bigger draw.

Bob Atkinson of TravelSupermarket said: “After what has been a packed summer of events many families have delayed booking a summer getaway, perhaps hoping to enjoy some sunshine here in the UK.”
