Family wins £15,500 payout over ‘worst ever’ Red Sea resort holiday

A FAMILY of four has won a compensation payout of £15,500 after enduring the “worst holiday ever” at a resort in Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt.

Susan and Lee Fellows and their two children all fell ill with severe gastric illnesses, including salmonella, while holidaying at the four-star Tropicana Grand Azure Hotel in May 2012.

The family, who booked their all-inclusive trip through travel operator First Choice, complained the restaurant was serving what appeared to be under-cooked meals and that some of the food was re-heated.

They also complained about the cutlery, crockery and tablecloths being dirty and saw flies swarming around dining areas.

Lawyers from firm Irwin Mitchell have now secured the Fellows family, from Chesterfield, a £15,500 settlement.

Mrs Fellows, 44, spent five days of her holiday in bed and was also unable to work full-time for a week when she returned home.

She branded the holiday the “worst ever”, and added: “I’m wary of going anywhere abroad, particularly on a full-board basis like we did in Sharm El Sheikh, again. We were hoping for a relaxing family trip but it was the complete opposite.

“It was horrible to see my family so unwell when we should have been enjoying ourselves.”

First Choice said it refuses to comment on such pay-outs.
