It seems those with a bit of romance in their soul prefer to visit York and the Lake District, with both featuring in the top 10 romantic places in the UK. While Hull and Bradford join Blackpool in the bottom 10, according to a survey by Hotels.com.

Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “It’s easy to see why York is in the top 10 most romantic places in the UK with its stunning buildings and fine food – and equally surprising to not see more Yorkshire places near the top.”

Mr Verity added: “It’s hard to believe Bradford and Hull are listed where they are given Bradford is home to our famous Brontë country – full of wonder and romance – and Hull has just been named the UK City of Culture for 2017.”
