Female Master Cutler makes history

Engineering entrepreneur Pam Liversidge made history yesterday when she became the first woman to be installed as Master Cutler.

Mrs Liversidge, a qualified engineer and managing director of Quest Investments, took over the role at the Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire from Bill Speirs, who has held the position for the last 12 months.

She is the first female Master Cutler in the trade guild’s 387-year history. Her husband Doug, himself a former Master in 1998, will hold the title of Consort while the role of Mistress Cutler will be go to Jean Stone, the wife of David Stone, also a previous Master.

Mrs Liversidge intends to continue the work of the previous Master, focusing on the skills deficit and keeping manufacturing at the forefront of government thinking. picture: Chris Lawton
