Fewer Britons seeking to move abroad

The number of Britons looking to buy property abroad dipped sharply last month, with interest in the United States and Australia cooling considerably.

Internet searches for property overseas fell 17 per cent in September 2010 compared with August 2010, shows a report by property website Rightmove and foreign exchange company Moneycorp.

US searches fell 22.5 per cent, with Australia down 21.83 per cent and Greece going down 24.46 per cent.

However, searches for property in Tenerife rose 3.79 per cent.

David Kerns, dealing manager at Moneycorp, said the decline in searches could be due to September's weakening of sterling against most major currencies as well as seasonal factors.
