Fight victim taken to hospital after Saturday night brawl erupts on train

Five people have been arrested after a brawl involving between 15 and 20 people broke out on a train between Leeds and Wakefield.

The incident took place on the 8.05pm Northern Rail train between Leeds and Knottingley as it approached Woodlesford station on Saturday at 8.20pm.

British Transport Police (BTP) Detective Sergeant Matt Davies said: “BTP received a report from the train’s conductor that a fight had broken out between approximately 15-20 people on the service.

“Five people, three men aged 24, 27 and 43, and two women, aged 20 and 43, all from Castleford, have been arrested in connection with the incident which has left one man with a broken nose requiring hospital treatment and a number of others with cuts and bruises.

“We understand that a group of three men and three women boarded the service at Leeds. They then became involved in an altercation that resulted in serious disorder breaking out between two groups on the train.”

Transport police were yesterday currently studying CCTV and urged anyone with information to contact them by calling 0800 405040.

Those arrested have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
