Final week of training for Trailtrekkers

HUNDREDS of intrepid walkers from across Yorkshire are embarking on their final week of training ahead of this weekend's gruelling Trailtrekker event.

There is now less than week to go until the start of the 100km charity walk through the Yorkshire Dales that will take nearly 600 participants up to 30 hours to complete.

Around 140 teams of four have been in training for many months now to prepare for the 62-mile circular course, which takes in some of the Dales's most challenging peaks.

They include four close friends from Beverley, who between them have walked more than 500 miles this year in preparation for this weekend.

The team is made up of local business owners Hannah Thoresby, of Rococo Design and Marketing, Helen Bissett, of Budding Futures, her husband Geoff and their friend Laura Foley.

Ms Thoresby said: "Helen and I undertake a new challenge every year. Last year we did the Great North Run and this year's Trailtrekker was the obvious step-up to increase the physical and mental demand and push ourselves even further."

"Between us we have walked in excess of 500 miles during our training. On Sunday I walked 45 miles from York Minster to Beverley Minster which took fifteen and a half hours – the feeling of achievement was immense and now I can't wait until June.
