Fire brigade frees boy, 6, who got his hand stuck in York Minster collection tin

A BOY aged six took home an unusual memento from York Minster – a donation box he trapped his finger in.

Oliver Hallidie Smith put his finger into the donation box during a visit with his family.

Minster staff and relatives spent 40 minutes trying to release him before he was eventually freed when a carpenter cut through the plastic trapping his finger.

He was given part of the donation box to take home. Oliver, from York, and his brother, William, aged nine, have now written about the incident at school.
