Firefighters from Dearne, Edlington, Tankersley and Aston Park attended the incident in Mexborough yesterday morning and pulled the animal from the water.

A fire service spokesman said: “The crews were able to get a rope around the deer and pull it to safety. The Royal Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals was in attendance and are now looking after the deer which will be released once it has recovered from its ordeal.”
