First reunion in fifty years for former pupils

ALUMNI ARE travelling from all corners of the world to return a former boarding school near Bridlington for the first time in 50 years.

The Marton Hall Boys’ Preparatory School class of 1964 will celebrate five decades since leaving with its first big reunion.

Among the list of former pupils is political heavyweight Sir Stewart Eldon, the former British Ambassador to Ireland, and Robin Blencoe, a former minister of the British Columbia government in Canada. The latter was also a teacher at the school before its closure.

Around 30 past pupils are expected to gather at the Bridlington Links Golf Club, Marton, which is next door to the former school. A leisure company now occupies the main building.

The event has been organised by another former student, Roger Kohn, 63, who went on to become a successful author and designer. Mr Kohn, from York, was sent to the boarding school at the age of nine and spent four years there.

Mr Kohn said: “We had a small local reunion in 2002 but this is the first real time we have all come together. I got the idea when someone I used to go to school with looked me up and we went out for a drink together.

“Some boys loved being there while others were very homesick, but I think most of the people attending will have fond memories of Marton Hall.”

Any ex-pupils or former members of staff interested in attending the reunion can email [email protected] for details.
