Five-year-olds reveal career aspirations

Many children are already planning their careers by the age of five, with becoming a teacher or sports star high on the list of ambitions, a survey of parents suggests.

More than one in four – 26 per cent – parents said their children showed signs of what they want to be when they grow up by the age of five, according to a poll by the National Childminding Association (NCMA).

About half said their children had shown signs of career aspirations by the age of nine.

The survey – commissioned to mark National Childminding Week – asked 1,000 parents last month what careers their children were interested in.
