Football fans get chance to relive 1966 World Cup glory

People have the chance of reliving memories of England's 1966 World Cup win at a one-off event "66 Again in 2010".

On Saturday, May 22 the 1966 World Cup Final will be replayed on large screen at the Arden Road Social Club, Halifax, when the doors will open from 6.30pm for a 7.45pm kick off.

The event in aid of three causes – Warley Rangers Junior Football Club, Arthritis Care and Hearing Dogs for the Deaf – is the idea of John Needler from Halifax.

He said: "My wife attended a charity night watching a re-run of the film Dirty Dancing in Hebden Bridge and I thought what a great idea, what could I do?

"2010 is the World Cup year so I thought why not re show the 1966 World Cup Final before we go and win it again in South Africa.

"It has not been easy I had to get permission from Fifa to show the event and then ask the BBC to dub the commentary on to the video footage. There are still a few things that require doing, but I have had some great people supporting the event.

"Great thanks must go to Garry Horsfield of Horsfield Estate Agents for sponsoring the event and the team of organisers who have put in a great amount of time, Chris Butler, Craig Conroy, Sandra and Garry Horsfield, Soo Nevison, and Alan Potter. I would also like to thank A-V Interiors who have donated the audio visual equipment free of charge." He added: "We are also looking for a few more programme sponsors to take an advert in the match programme and any memorabilia that could be auctioned off on the night.

''The night would be really complete if we could get West Yorkshire's own World Cup Winner Ray Wilson, an ex-Huddersfield Town player to the event, so if anyone knows Ray please let him know we are looking of him and pass him our number.''

Mr Butler, who is organising the promotional side of the event, added: "We are hoping to raise 6,000 in total – 2,000 for each charity and it would be great if Mr Wilson was able to attend."

Attempts to get in touch with Mr Wilson, who is understood to live in the Outlane area, have failed.

Further information on the event is available from John Needler 07745375466 or Chris Butler 07826516851

Tickets for the event are on sale at 7.50 include a programme and supper.
