Footways to be widened

FOOTPATHS on Whitby’s historic swing bridge are to be widened to combat the notorious bottlenecks of pedestrians attempting to use the crossing.

The work will be carried out next month to improve safety for pedestrians ahead of the start of the main tourism season.

However, motorists have been warned to expect major disruption as the bridge will be closed to traffic while the work is carried out.
