Former Telephone House to ring changes with new look

Hull-based telecoms firm KC is ringing the changes with a new look for its city centre headquarters in Hull.

A 4m refurbishment will see colour injected onto the outside of the drab 1960s building in Carr Lane in the form of large vinyl dots and a five-floor high glass atrium added to make an impressive new entrance.

Inside the office space will be completely remodelled, with new heating, lighting and ventilation installed for the 450 employees who work there.

Subject to planning permission, building should start next April.

KC's Chief Executive Kevin Walsh said: "The office was built in the sixties, and while parts of it have been updated and improved over the years, a significant investment is now needed to create a more modern working environment.

"It's great for our employees and it makes a statement to our customers that we are committed to Hull and are proud to invest in the local area.

"It's also good news for the local economy, as we plan to use local suppliers as much as possible throughout the refurbishment."

The building, formerly known as Telephone House, dates from 1964.

The site was once the location of dozens of shops and houses, most of which were badly damaged during the Second World War.
