Four arrested after high-speed police chase in North Yorkshire

A high speed police chase through North Yorkshire in the early hours of yesterday resulted in four men being arrested.

The men, one aged 30 and three aged 18, were arrested on suspicion of “going equipped to steal, and theft from a vehicle”, according to police.

Officers became involved in a chase when they spotted a suspicious vehicle in Scruton, Northallerton, shortly before 1am. The vehicle failed to stop when prompted, resulting in a pursuit along the A64 and onto the A19.

The vehicle, a beige Volvo V40, reached speed in excess of 100mph during the pursuit.

Officers from North Yorkshire Police called in the assistance of Cleveland Police before the vehicle was brought to a halt on the A19 near Crathorne around 20 minutes later.

All four men have been released by police “under investigation”, while enquiries continue.
