Free meals in store as ‘pop-up’ bistro to open for three days

Morrisons and five celebrity chefs have joined forces to provide a limited number of free meals as a way of promoting a new line of prepared dishes for the Yorkshire-based supermarket chain.

The “M Kitchen” restaurant at Granary Wharf in the city will be serving the food for just three days.

Morrisons have commissioned the dishes from five of the UK’s most respected chefs – Bryn Williams, head chef and sole proprietor of Odette’s Restaurant in Primrose Hill; Aldo Zilli, Italian restaurateur and chef patron of the Zilli Fish Group; Atul Kochhar, head chef at Benares in London’s Mayfair; Pierre Koffmann, chef patron of Koffmann’s Knightsbridge and Nigel Haworth, head chef at Northcote Manor in Lancashire.

The meat dishes include Lancashire Hotpot, chicken korma and shepherd’s pie.

Bookings are now being taken at the temporary bistro for the sittings between November 16–18. Dining is free – but limited to the first 270 to book online.

Morrisons hope that at least one of the five chefs will visit Leeds during the three days.

The chain’s chief executive Neil Nugent said: “We’ve achieved our goal to demonstrate that you can have restaurant quality food to enjoy easily at home.”

The restaurant – in a “stunning setting” on Dark Neville Street near the Hilton Hotel in the city centre – will open for lunch between 12 noon and 3pm and for dinner between 6pm and 8.30pm.

Bookings have already opened – at www.the-mkitchen.co.uk – but those taking advantage of the offer may find themselves helping with publicity, the website warns.

Morrisons will be running similar events in Manchester and Birmingham later in the month.
