Fresh hope for boost to community

Members of Bradford Council’s executive are being asked to agree a one year delay on proposals to sell off the land for development, which would allow members of the Shearbridge Residents’ Association to produce more detailed plans.

Councillor Andrew Thornton, the council’s executive member for environment and sport, said: “We thank the residents for their hard work in collecting the signatures for the petition and producing the plans for the area.

“I am confident we can find a solution for the future of this land which suits the council tax payer and the people who live in the area.”

A report to the executive, which will meet tomorrow, says that although the council has had an offer to buy the land at Great Horton Road, it may be put to community use if members agree.

The residents would then have to produce a viable business 
case.

The association wants to create a community area of walkways, cycle routes and a multi-sports area with facilities for tennis, netball, football and hockey.
