Friday morning train chaos hits Leeds commuters

TRAVELLERS into Leeds faced rush-hour chaos again this morning after a broken-down train halted services.

Services from Ilkley, Keighley and Bradford were cancelled after the breakdown at Shipley.

Passengers were told to expect delays of up to 50 minutes until 10.30.

Network Rail said the breakdown was affecting trains passing through Shipley. But there were also widespread cancellations on Leeds to Ilkley services, which bypass the town.

A separate problem was causing delays between Halifax and Manchester, with Northern Rail blaming “a signalling problem”. Trains from Hebden Bridge and Todmorden were also hit.

Today’s delays are the latest in a series since the train companies put up fares at the beginning of the year.
