The gallery’s staff are now looking to stage an annual event after they have been inundated with entries for this summer’s exhibition.

Development manager Jo Rose said: “We have been really impressed by the standard and the variety of the entries, and we are now looking to stage an exhibition every summer.

“It is a chance for up-and-coming talent to exhibit their work, and some of the people who have pictures on show have been to workshops at the gallery.”

A wide range of subjects are included in the show with pictures of the Yorkshire coast, zebras in the Masai Mara, icebergs in Antarctica and street scenes in Cuba.

Entries were judged by a panel which included Mr Cornish and the selected works will be on display at the gallery until Saturday, August 27.
