Game on as wildlife wonders set to be shown in exhibition

GLORIOUS grouse and picture-perfect pheasants and partridges are to go on show, with the opening of a new exhibition this week.

Wildlife artist Robert Fuller is putting on a display of oil paintings of game birds at The Robert Fuller Gallery, Fotherdale Farm, Thixendale, near Malton.

Mr Fuller, who grew up on a farm in Great Givendale, near Pocklington, is one of the country's foremost wildlife artists and has worked for the National Trust and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.

He has travelled the world to study his subjects, but is best known for his depictions of British wildlife inspired by the Yorkshire countryside which he regularly displays across the country.

Alongside his oil paintings, Mr Fuller will also be exhibiting photographic studies of game birds and educational boards detailing their history and their place in the countryside today.

He said: "Christmas in the countryside wouldn't be the same without game birds.

"The jewel-like plumage of a pheasant streaking against snow or bright red legs of French partridge padding through winter stubble is the perfect picture to paint."

The free exhibition, Glorious Game Birds, runs from Saturday until November 28. It is open daily from 11am to 4.30pm.
