In the here and now, Monk is fully focusing on the Owls consolidating their Championship status after a rocky campaign on and off the pitch ahead of a big close season when the squad is likely to undergo a major make-over with a number of senior players expected to leave.

The major backdrop at the moment surrounds the club's legal fight with the EFL over charges of breaching Profitability & Sustainability rules - with a hefty points deduction having the potential to plunge the Owls into a Championship relegation fight if they are lose their case.

An independent commission hearing started earlier this week.

It remains to be seen what transpires, but Monk has reiterated his desire to be at the Hillsborough helm for the long haul with the Owls chief hopeful regarding his own future - having held discussions regarding plans for next season with chairman Dejphon Chansiri.

Monk, whose side visit Bristol City on Sunday, said: "I want to be here. I am committed and driven. I work as hard as I can every single day but I also understand as a manager that it is results driven and that will always be the way.

"But I have had nothing but support from the chairman and the club. There are decisions going on now and talk of what we are doing moving forward.

"I don't think we would be doing that if there wasn't a feeling that we could move this forward and do it together.

"The one thing I know is if I get the opportunity and am given the time to do that then I can definitely bring a team that the fans and everyone can be proud of. I can promise that.

"You have to pick up results and get through the tough times. We are in a difficult moment right now and I have to guide that through to get to that better day. All I can say to the fans is the club will get to that better day."
