Gas mains upgrade in pipeline

Work is due to begin next month to improve gas mains in the village of Glusburn, near Keighley.

The £88,000 scheme will see Northern Gas Networks replace ageing metal gas mains in the area with a more durable plastic version.

The work is expected to start on April 11 and to take around seven weeks to complete.

Gas mains upgrades will be carried out in Colne Road, Mayfield Close, Ryecroft Way, Sunny Bank Road and Townend Place.

The newly laid mains will be connected to the existing gas network via small excavations in Black Abbey Lane and Bungalow Road.

Two-way temporary lights will be put in place when engineers are working on Colne Road between Townend Place and Wheatlands Lane.

Northern Gas Networks area operations manager Tony Thompson said: “We use modern technology wherever possible to cut the number of excavations we make.

“In addition, the new pipes we are putting in are more durable and flexible with an expected lifespan of around 80 years, so the good news is that once we are done, we won’t need to come back for some time.”
