‘Gentleman’ killed walking girl home

A BOY aged 15 was being a “gentleman” by walking a lifelong friend home when he was hit and killed by a car, his family said yesterday.

Koen Allwood died after being hit by a blue Peugeot 306 in Dam Road, Barton upon Humber, at about 10.50pm last Wednesday, less than a month before his 16th birthday.

His female friend, also 15, whom he had known since being a small child, suffered life-threatening injuries but is recovering in hospital.

Koen’s family said in a statement: “He’d known the girl he was with since he was three or four and had recently joined Explorer Scouts where they went on adventures together.

“He was walking her home when he was killed.

“They had just finished presenting their debut online radio show. Fifty minutes later he was taken from us.”

The family said Koen had always wanted to work in radio or journalism.

The statement added: “He leaves behind a 12-year-old brother who thought the world of him and a family and community left in devastation.

“His final, selfless act was to walk his friend 500 metres home - a thing he’d done so many times before.

“This is the kind of gentleman he was.

“I want to say he was my baby and a part of me has been destroyed for ever.”

Koen, a pupil of Baysgarth School, was also an accomplished swimmer and played the cornet with Barton Town Youth Band.

He was an avid payer of computer games, using the online identity Kodinn, and had a “huge” number of online friends.
