Geoffrey Bould

Geoffrey Bould, who has died at 98, was a war veteran who became a journalist contributing to The Yorkshire Post and The Guardian and later helped to found a religious news magazine.

Born in Leeds and raised in Blackpool, he had joined the
Post two years before the outbreak of war but was then recruited to the 7th Armoured Brigade – the Desert Rats – and saw service in North Africa, Burma and Italy.

After demob, he put his writing career on hold and became a civil servant, joining the Ministry of Pensions in Blackpool.

But he returned to journalism in 1982, producing articles and interviews about politics, poetry, religion, and his Yorkshire boyhood.

A Quaker, he went on to co-found and edit a Christian magazine, Interfaith News, which he edited from 1982 to 1989.

His wife, Kathleen, died
in 2009, and he is survived
by two sons and two grandchildren.
