The ‘Give Me Some Credit’ scheme by St George’s Crypt allows members of the public to buy books of five vouchers for £5 to hand out to those in need instead of giving money.

The money raised funds free services at the crypt.

Project manager Andrew Ormond said: “We all feel guilty when we pass someone sitting on the street.

“The vouchers signpost to our services so the public can give with confidence.”

Lord Mayor, Coun Jane Dowson, praised the vouchers, calling them “a lifeline.”

The voucher books are available at libraries, the Civic Hall and the Crypt’s cafes, shops and main centre.
