Go green call to tourism businesses

TOURISM businesses across the Yorkshire Dales are being urged to use more locally sourced produce and adopt environmentally-friendly working practices to save cash and prevent climate change.

The Yorkshire Dales and Harrogate Tourism Partnership is spearheading the drive to encourage more rural enterprises to enhance their green credentials.

An event, which is supported by the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, is being staged later this month to showcase eco-friendly business practice – as well as saving money on energy bills.

The authority's sustainable tourism officer, Kathryn Storey, said: "The aim of the workshop is to show businesses catering for visitors to the area how they can save money by becoming more environmentally-friendly – whether it is by reducing energy and water consumption or sourcing local produce. "

The free sustainable tourism workshop day is being held at the Dales Countryside Museum in Hawes on Wednesday next week.

Places are being offered on a first come, first served basis, with a maximum of two per business. To book, contact the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority on 01756 751650 or email [email protected]
