Good hare day as hall plays host to animal sculptures

Artist Emma Stothard will be exhibiting her life-size striking willow sculptures in a historic setting.

Wandering in Beningbrough Hall and its gardens, near York, visitors will encounter a visual surprise of animals grazing, a peacock strutting as well as hares playing on the stairs and pets relaxing by the fire.

Events and marketing co-ordinator Jo Parker said: “We’re delighted to have Emma Stothard’s willow sculptures on display around the hall and gardens.

“They’re so striking and a great addition this winter for people to enjoy.

“Christmas at Beningbrough is always such an exciting time. It’s incredibly atmospheric when the hall is decorated with foliage from the estate, just as it would have been over the centuries.”

A countryside Christmas experience awaits visitors as the National Trust prepares for the festive season.

Every Saturday and Sunday in December, the hall will be open to showcase the decadence of a Country Gentleman’s Georgian feast day, with set dressing to showcase the meals through a banquet day.

There is also a chance to enjoy a peep below stairs to see a selection of the servant spaces. For children, there are festive trails to spot around the gardens and other activities.
