GP-led groups run budgets in 10 more areas

THE go-ahead has been given for 10 more GP-led clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) in Yorkshire.

Officials have given approval for Airedale Wharfedale and Craven, Bradford City, Bradford Districts, Greater Huddersfield, Hull, Leeds North, Leeds South and East, Leeds West, North Lincolnshire and Sheffield CCGs to take on responsibility for about two thirds of NHS spending.

Family doctor Tim Moorhead, chairman of NHS Sheffield CCG which will have a budget of more than £700m, said it would aim to deliver “top-class quality services” to people in the city.

He said: “We all speak to patients and the people of Sheffield on a daily basis and feel like we’re now in a position to put this on-the-ground knowledge into our plans for commissioning health services for the coming years.”

GP Akram Khan, chairman of Bradford City CCG, said the group hoped “to make a real difference to the health and wellbeing of local people and reduce health inequalities”.
