GP struck off over Iraq death will not appeal

A DOCTOR struck off over failings after the death of an Iraqi detainee has said he will not appeal against the decision, despite a campaign to get him reinstated.

Dr Derek Keilloh, a former Army doctor who worked as a GP in Northallerton, was struck off for failing to report injuries suffered by Iraqi detainee Baha Mousa at the hands of British soldiers who beat him to death.

The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service banned Dr Keilloh from working as a doctor in December after finding him guilty of misconduct. Dr Keilloh thanked campaigners for their support but said: “Unfortunately despite the public opinion – strong as it is – it could not influence or assist the decision of appeal.”
