Great War story told on stage for first time

Students from Sheffield University, including Peter Geary, Jonathan Jones and David Reid, will perform the first-ever stage production of Pat Barker's Regeneration next month.

Based on real life characters and events, the play – adapted from a trilogy of novels – tells the story of soldiers from First World War who are sent to a psychiatric hospital. The stage adaptation is written and directed by Ian Gledhill, from Sheffield.

Mr Gledhill said: "Regeneration is historically fascinating. It's based on real life events at Craiglockhart Hospital in Edinburgh where Wilfred Owen met Siegfried Sassoon and William Rivers undertook his pioneering work in the treatment of shell-shock. It raises a lot of questions and issues relevant to today."

The play will run from March 3-6 at Sheffield University Drama Studio.

Tickets are available by calling 0114 2620574.
