Green development: Thousands of jobs to be created by long-awaited business park

ABOUT 3,000 jobs are expected to be created over the next 10 years on a "green" business park close to the Humber Bridge.

The Bridgehead park in Hessle, near Hull, has secured outline planning permission and work is due to start within the next year.

Dominic Gibbons, the managing director of Wykeland Group, one of the companies behind the site, said: "We would like to see people working there in the next couple of years. It's another facet to the region's investment portfolio."

The 52.6 acre site will include offices and space for high technology light manufacturing companies. There will also be research and development facilities for technology-based enterprises.

The park is being developed by Bridgeland, a joint venture between the Wykeland Group and K B Properties.

The park was originally proposed in 1997. Conditional planning permission has been granted by East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

In a statement, Wykeland Group said: "The consent comes with a comprehensive list of conditions agreed between the developer and the council that will enable the council to control the development and alleviate any local concerns."

The consent includes junction improvements to the A63 west-bound road at Ferriby and a pedestrian crossing over Boothferry Road.

Mr Gibbons added: "This is great news after 13 long years of hard work, patience and dedication from the team, on a scheme that we really believe will have a huge positive impact on the region.

"Our next step will be to work through the conditions with a view to progressing the development as soon as possible."

Mr Gibbons said the park's "end value" would be around 120m and it was expected to be completed over eight to 10 years.

The scheme also includes a travel plan to encourage workers to use public transport.
