Green Man set to work his magic

The Green Man has appeared all over the world in sculptures, drawings and other images. He is usually shown with branches or vines sprouting form his nose, mouth, and other parts of his face.

The Green Man is also a popular name for English public houses, as well as the fictional inn in the Kingsley Amis novel of the same name.

The origins of the ancient folklore will be explored at the first of a series of workshops being run at the Old Courthouse, Westgate, Thirsk.

As well as learning the origins of The Green Man, the 18 artists will be creating sculptures on the theme for indoor and outdoor use. They can take away some plaster casts on the day. Clay artefacts will be fired and available for collection at a later date.
